Who is this retreat for?

For mental health professionals who seek to:
  • Deepen your skills!
  • Strengthen adherence!
  • Transform clinical confidence!
The DBT Intensive Training Retreat is designed for mental health professionals who have completed foundational DBT training and are seeking to consolidate and advance their clinical practice. It is particularly suited to clinicians who want to move beyond theory and strengthen their confidence in delivering DBT with fidelity in real-world settings.

This retreat is appropriate for:
  • Psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, mental health nurses, counsellors, and allied health professionals
  • Clinicians who have completed DBT Essentials or equivalent introductory DBT training
  • Practitioners currently delivering, or preparing to deliver, individual DBT therapy, DBT skills groups, or comprehensive DBT programs
  • Clinicians seeking structured practice, feedback, and consultation to improve adherence to the DBT model
  • Teams or individuals looking to strengthen skills in behavioural chain analysis, skills coaching, validation, and dialectical strategies
  • Practitioners working with high-risk, emotionally dysregulated, or complex presentations (e.g. suicidality, self-harm, personality disorders, complex trauma)

The retreat is not an introductory DBT course. It is intended for clinicians who already have a working knowledge of DBT and are ready to engage in intensive experiential learning, supervised practice, and consultation-team processes delivered by Dr. Peter King from the Asia Pacific DBT Institute.

“This retreat supports clinicians move beyond knowing DBT to truly living it in their clinical work—grounded, skilled, and confident in moments that matter most.”

“Since 2010 I have learnt that when clinicians slow down, practise together, and reconnect with the foundations of DBT, the work becomes more effective—for clients and for therapists.”

Dr. Peter King, Retreat Lead

What's included?

Intensive Training in DBT

Participants engage in extended, practice-based sessions focused on behavioural chain analysis, skills coaching, validation, dialectical strategies, and consultation-team processes. Learning is highly experiential, with clinicians actively participating in roleplays, live demonstrations, micro-teaching of DBT skills, and structured peer feedback using DBT adherence frameworks. Emphasis is placed on translating DBT theory into moment-to-moment clinical decision-making, particularly when working with high-risk, emotionally dysregulated, or complex presentations.

Activities

In addition to structured therapeutic sessions, participants can enjoy a range of relaxing and enriching activities designed to support balance, enjoyment, and connection.

Optional activities may include:
  • Island visits and coastal excursions

  • Ethical elephant sanctuary experiences

  • Opportunities for rest, exploration, and cultural engagement

These activities provide space for enjoyment and integration, supporting wellbeing while complementing the therapeutic focus of the retreat.

Credentialiong in DBT

The DBT Intensive Training Retreat also provides participating clinicians with structured training hours that contribute toward credentialing in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Delivered by senior trainers from the Asia Pacific DBT Institute and led by Dr. Peter King, the retreat includes documented didactic instruction, supervised skills practice, and adherence-focused feedback aligned with recognised DBT training pathways. Participants receive formal certification of completion, supporting ongoing professional development, CPD requirements, and progression toward advanced DBT practitioner credentialing.

Airport Transfers

For your convenience, complimentary airport transfers are included as part of the retreat.

All participants are collected from Phuket International Airport at the start of the retreat and transported back to the airport at the conclusion of the program, ensuring a smooth and stress-free arrival and departure.
